Fantastic idea Christian
Great visualistation, how can we help? What are your next steps and big challenges ahead in the development of your project?
Thank you for commenting,
Some steps and challenges I will be deciding in the near future are the landscape of the house and backyard while implementing a design that fights the problems I have stated, as well as maintaining a focus on being more aesthetically pleasing than my house now.
Hi there, was just sent this from a leader in regenerative design and the built environment. Thought it could be of use.
Doing great.

Can I suggest a look at the regenerative design and development space
This focuses on first building capacity within the designer on right thinking action and knowledge in line with the natural evolutionary system of life, I think that if there was anything you could provide these students it would be to give them a better opportunity of how to see the world and their place in it
The best course Ive seen/done is https://www.regenerat.es/trp/ and although Regenesis works based on built environment the system can be used for anything. They have a short few clips on their site that explains it better https://regenesisgroup.com/
Also look into Carol Sanfords work in regenerative business https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLXX6VqWYTg&t=907s
Thank you for this information,
I have now implemented this into the thought process of my project.
I am now looking for advice on developing testing and experimentation for my project regarding mold build up, drainage issues and landscaping problems as it is quite a difficult procedure to manage.
This is a great project Christian! I really like the look of your 3-D model. What building materials are you thinking of for the construction? Have you also considered ventilation (particularly cross-ventilation) and access to direct sunlight in your design? This is critical to prevent mold build up. Especially if you are building into the hill, you will need to look at how to prevent runoff from entering the building or causing rising damp and other mold-related issues. You might find this article useful and interesting about an underground house built into a hill https://bparchitects.com.au/home-built-into-hill/#:~:text=Yes.,Pedy%20in%20northern%20South%20Australia.
I look forward to seeing how this develops!
Hi Christian,
Love your project idea and great work so far! Congratulations on incorporating regenerative design principles into your project.
Have you heard of the term biomimicry? It means looking to nature for inspiration, design ideas and materials found in the natural world. There are some terrific YouTube videos with more on biomimicry which is one of the schools of thought behind the circular economy. A circular economy aims to design out waste and pollution, keep resources in use for as long as possible and at their highest value, and regenerate natural systems.
For your rebuild, check out this cool case study on a Sydney building that saved over 7,500 tonnes of carbon by reusing materials. https://acehub.org.au/knowledge-hub/case-studies/quay-quarter-tower
For your fit-out, also see this free new directory for some circular ideas: https://fitoutcirculareconomydirectory.spread.name/
Please let me know if I can help with anything else in the realm of circular economy!Warm regards,
Chelsea McLean, Circular Economy Pioneers
Hi Christian,
I love the idea of a house that can benefit from the shape of any and all terrains whilst being efficient and sustainable. The type of house shown in your model looks great with much potential in future, although I may need to point out that in today’s age, strict building codes will restrict such an idea until changes are made.
Some standards to consider for a design of a house on such a steep slope could be found in AS 2870:2011, Residential slabs and footings. More specifically, Part 3.2.2.4, Slab edge support on sloping sites, will help determine the specifications of an Earth retaining wall based on the steepness of the slope above where the house will sit. For the lower end of the house, Part 3.1.1.b, Application of Earthworks, will help determine the specifications of the footings and slabs that will be installed on the low steep side of which the house will sit. These codes can be found in the NCC 2019 Volume Two Amendment 1.
Despite this, I would love to see more house design models similar to what you have proposed.
Good morning UpRising. Congratulations on the development of your project. As one of this year's UpRising students, you have been invited to
UpRising @ Stone&Chalk - Program X - Tickets are open now.
Click here to get your ticket. https://events.humanitix.com/uprising-stone-and-chalk
Our big event for this year, UpRising@Stone&Chalk, July 14th Friday 10am to 2pm, and you get first dibs. This will be in the second week of the school holidays. It doesn't mess up your school time and makes it as easy as possible for you to get there. In a cool building, in an amazing place, in the heart of innovation in NSW.
There is a limit of 50 attendees, with the first invitations going to you, the
UpRising students of 2023. If there are any spaces left by the end of this
week, we will create a second round of invitations that you can pass onto a
classmate from your design class. Please complete this survey if you haven't
already to help us know exactly what you want to get from this opportunity.
Teachers are most welcome to the event as well.
Congratulations Christian on your fantastic efforts with your MDP, it has been great to be part of your design journey this year. We would love to see an image of what your final design looks like if you get a chance to drop in a final image of your project.
Good luck with the submission of your project and adding any finishing touches, I am sure you will do great. We hope that you have learned a lot from being part of this year's UpRising and are excited to take your creativity and design thinking into the next steps in life, (which is exactly what business and industry are looking for.) Teachers, thank you for helping your students make the leap across the gap, from classroom to industry. Business leaders, likewise it has been fantastic to connect with you, thank you for all of the support you have given to these young designers and helping to grow the innovation ecosystem in NSW. Breaking down the silos, together.
If you could complete this quick survey that would be greatly appreciated, teachers and business/community also welcome to fill in and provide valuable feedback.
