Multifunctional Office Desk

post-image
A multifunctional office desk that ensures a universal design solution that can be utilized in many environments such as schools, homes, libraries, receptions, offices and many more.  Additionally, my MDP will have a range of attachments and features that can be customized to the need of the user, attached to the desk securely through a universal joining system. Features such as water bottle holders, flower pots, filing units, pencil holders, cork/whiteboards, raised laptop stands, light fixtures, charging ports and many more. They will serve multiple additional functions and be fully customisable to reduce excess space of improving efficiency.

Great idea Olivia1226.

Love the versatility and customisation that you have incorporated into your design.

What are two challenges that you are facing at the moment? If you can provide a few areas that we can assist you with that would be great.

In the meantime have you considered packaging and transportation of your product. Also have you considered how you desk could be repurposed at the end of its use?

Looking forward to seeing your design take shape.

Excellent idea Olivia, particularly the attachments. This project idea from one of last year's students may give you more ideas

Hi Oliva,

Great concept! Have you heard of the new Fit For Office program? https://geca.eco/news-and-events/the-future-of-circular-furniture-with-fit-for-office/

It's a new government-funded and industry-led project working toward a better and more circular future for Australia’s office furniture!

You can sign up for the FFO mailing list to keep up to date on the latest developments. Happy to help you make contact with someone working on this project if you'd like to ask them questions for your project.

Kind regards,

Chelsea McLean, Circular Economy Pioneers

Hey Olivia,

This is a great idea! I like how the user has the power to customize their workspace the way they want with a plethora of features to choose from.

With the charging port attachment, you will need to supply power for it to function so that devices can be charged. Would you want your multifunctional desk to be electrically powered so that the charging port attachment can be used? If so, will the power be sourced from a power outlet or a battery?

On the topic of electric desks, may I suggest another feature that adjusts the height of the desk so that users can interchange from seated to standing position. Interestingly enough, sitting for prolonged periods of time can cause health issues. Increased blood pressure and high blood sugar just to name a few. Hence, I think that this would be a great addition to your multifunctional desk concept as it presents opportunities for the user to improve overall posture, focus, circulation and work efficiency. But that is going to depend on if you are going to follow through with implementing an electric desk.

Overall, this a fantastic concept and I hope to see your design flourish!

Regards,

Ryan :)

Hi @RyanL33

Thankyou so much for your support!

Currently, I am actually trying to find a solution for a power function within my desk design. As my school doesn't have a workshop, I am limited to the laser cutter at my school. Consequently, I am struggling to figure out how to incorporate a power unit/battery or even a power board in my design without making it too bulky. Each time I try to design it, the solution either doesn't fit a wide range of plugs due to it being too small, or it's too big and other multifunctional features are compensated.

Are there any designs or solutions you have found that could possibly solve my issue or further benefit my design?

Thankyou again,

Olivia
