'Protection Meets Style'

post-image

Four days, five unrelated Sydney stabbing attacks. Seven people dead. Five of the seven dead, Women.

Australia is experiencing a surge in domestic violence, with knives and weapons increasingly used against women, including the recent Bondi stabbing. This concerning trend highlights the urgent need for effective personal-safety solutions, both in public and at home. April 2024, the Prime Minister declared a ‘national-crisis’ of violence against women, with ONE woman killed every FOUR days to domestic violence. My MDP aims to develop a range of stab-resistant protective clothing to combat this issue, combining discretion, comfort and style, potentially offering life-saving protection.

@UpRising Thank you so much for your support! I truly appreciate your recognition of the importance of this project. My next steps involve finalising the design and materials for the protective clothing, as well as conducting further research into the most effective ways to integrate comfort, safety and style. Any suggestions as to the materials or methods to achieve this would be incredibly valuable. Your support means a lot!

Hi, Michelle M,

Thank you for raising awareness regarding the growing issue of domestic violence, particularly against women, emphasised by the recent Bondi stabbing. Your suggestion of a comfortable and ergonomic range of stab-resistant clothing is an extremely ingenious and resourceful solution to this issue, providing protection, discretion and peace of mind for assault victims, without compromising on comfort or style.

My main concerns with your suggestion are that the clothing may be expensive to manufacture, and therefore expensive for prospective customers, since the clothing must be equipped with a tough, durable and weather resistant layer for protection, such as high-quality leather or stainless steel; furthermore, it may be cumbersome to design the clothing around the stab-resistant layer to maximise its effectiveness, whilst maintaining an ergonomic, comfortable and lightweight design.

Here are some design factors that you may want to consider:
1. Ensure that the stab-resistant layer covers the entire piece of clothing, and is manufactured from strong, durable and weather resistant materials, and the clothing itself is ergonomic and weather resistant, and is manufactured from lightweight and comfortable materials.
2. Ensure that the design materials are cheap, easily accessible, sustainable and recyclable, permitting the clothing brand to sustainably continue for many years.
3. Ensure compliance with the relevant standards in your country/region, confirming that the stab-resistant layer can reliably withstand stabbings and other assaults.

Overall, I believe that your suggestion is incredibly inspired and imperative, and with a few small improvements and extensions, should be implemented worldwide. Keep up the great work!

Kind regards,
