Safer Helmet Storage for RFS Firetrucks

post-image
For my MDP, I have decided to explore the challenge of storing new structural helmets (Gallet F1 FX) on the RFS fire truck. At present, there is no secure storage option for the helmets, and their current location poses a safety risk to both the crew and the vehicle. I aim to develop a viable storage solution that ensures the helmets are safely accommodated within the fire truck.

What do you think?

Fantastic idea Ellison

What are two or three things we can assist you with?

Ellison @ 2025.02.28 9:30 AM

@UpRising At this stage, I have particular areas that I need help with:

1. Suggestions for materials I could experiment with

2. Finding sustainable materials that are recyclable, such as plastics that can be remelted and turned into 3D printing filliments or used for moulding.

3. Possibly access to plastic moulding equipment or similar.

Hey Ellison, this is an interesting proposal. Have you thought about specific storage outside of the cab of the fire truck? maybe storage that has some type of security system ensuring the person requiring the helmets are the fire personal and not just available to the public to grab, this is based off of most of the componentry needed by firies is often located around the outside of the truck. The implementation of smart devices could also be implemented into the dash of the fire truck to ensure all gear has been returned to the truck before leaving the site.

Hello Ellison,

This is an interesting concept! I really appreciate how you're prioritizing the safety and security of helmet storage for firefighters. The idea of a clip attachment seems very functional. It might also be beneficial to explore materials that can withstand heat or harsh conditions since fire trucks typically operate in demanding environments. Additionally, it could be valuable to assess the clip's strength when the truck experiences movement or vibrations.

Best regards,
